Resource Maturity
$15M+. Institutional-grade operations and professional management — where the work shifts to exit readiness, legacy, or building the next horizon.
Resource Maturity is the fifth and final stage of the Business Evolution Framework. Revenue is $15M+ and the business has become institutional-grade — it operates with formal governance, professional management, and the financial sophistication of a business that could be valued and sold. The founder's role has evolved from operator to architect: they are building the business, not running it.
At this stage, the question is no longer operational. It's strategic: what is this business for, and who is it for after the founder? Exit readiness isn't necessarily about selling — it's about having built a business whose value doesn't depend on the founder being there. That's the difference between a business and a job with staff.
The Core Fulfilment layer becomes the primary focus at Resource Maturity. The business has proven its commercial capability. The question is whether it's serving the founder's life — and whether the founder wants to continue building it, sell it, transition it to management, or use the platform to create something new. These are the right questions to be asking. Most founders never get to them because earlier layers remain broken.
How to recognise Resource Maturity
- → Revenue is $15M+ with consistent profitability and operational independence
- → Management team can run the business without daily founder involvement
- → Board or advisory structure exists and is functional
- → Business has been formally valued or is operating with exit readiness in mind
- → Founder is working primarily on strategy, capital allocation, and external relationships
The key work at Resource Maturity
- 01 Formalise governance: board, advisor structure, financial reporting to stakeholders
- 02 Model and stress-test exit scenarios — EBITDA multiples, earn-out structures, management buyout
- 03 Define the founder's endgame explicitly and design the business to enable it
- 04 Invest in the management team's equity or long-term incentive schemes to retain capability
